The 49ers Should not Want the Rams Remnants
I know I’m late to the party and that most people won’t agree with me but Dashon Goldson is going to be better than OJ Atogwe in 2010. I don’t understand why people want this guy. He is a decent safety but he isn’t great. Goldson however, has the potential to be great. He is younger, faster, stronger, and is becoming a ball hawk. If we had picked up OJ we would be sacrificing Goldson’s development.
OJ is also coming off a shoulder injury that kept him out of four games last season. I doubt that OJ’s shoulder is going to allow him to make that many interceptions next season.
The thing that really bugs me about the clamoring for OJ is that he isn’t all that good to begin with. He plays for the rams so his stats and highlights are inflated. Look at P-Will’s rookie year when he played on a horrible defense. That year he had 174 tackles; he was able to do this because nobody else could make a tackle. The next years his tackle numbers dropped because he had people around him. This is what’s happening with OJ’s tackle numbers. Being on a horrible team has an opposite effect in terms of pass defense. If everybody in the secondary is garbage and you’re supposedly a good player, then the offensive coordinator will throw away from you. Having 8 then 5 then 2 (in limited action) interceptions means that teams do not have a game plan for OJ. He is still getting opportunities to make those interceptions.
I’m sorry but I don’t want the worst team in the NFL’s garbage.
