What’s Next for Shaun Hill, Who Should the 49ers Sign Next?

Falcons Kroy Bierman sacks 49ers Shaun Hill in San Francisco

If you’re a NinersCentral fan you know that I think that the David Carr signing makes sense, but Ninjames on NinersNation said it best,” we don’t have to be happy about it”. I mean, how could we be? We did get marginally better, but at what cost? Shaun Hill is probably not going to be a 49er next year; that has to bum any 49ers fan out.

Hill is a much better man than he is a football player, and he is a decent football player. How many men could lose their starting job and then stand on the sidelines and legitimately cheer for the guy who replaced him? I was watching that game with my dad, when the camera went to Hill, my dad said, “That’s how I hope I raised you.”

If Hill were to be released, any team would be lucky to have him. Here are some teams that Hill could succeed with.

The Minnesota Vikings
This would be the best scenario but it is also the least likely. They already have two back up QBs. However if Hill did go there he would be a perfect back up for Brett Favre, whom I believe will be back next year.

The Miami Dolphins
This is again not very likely but would be a good fit. Hill doesn’t have the physical talent, but he is a winner. He would also fit in the Dolphins system. Hill is similar to Chad Pennington, but with more intangibles.

The New York Jets
Hill would fit in perfectly with the Jets. He is gutsy and will do whatever it takes to win. That’s what Rex Ran is all about. Hill could also be a great mentor to Mark Sanchez.

Who should the 49ers Sign next?

NFC Divisional Playoff game between New Orleans Saints and Arizona Cardinals

The next free agent the 49ers should sign must have certain qualities: a proven veteran, a proven leader, and most importantly a proven winner.

Darren Sharper is all of those things. Sharper is a two-time Super bowl winner; nobody on the 49ers can say that. Sharper could be a great mentor for all the 49er’s young players. Imagine what Dashon Goldson and Curtis Taylor could learn from Sharper.

I don’t believe that the Saints are willing to let Sharper go, but the 49ers should put pressure on them by pursuing him.
